Application Process Begins For Joint Entrance Exam: JEE Mains 2018

The Central Board of Secondary Education(CBSE) has announced that the application process of Joint Entrance Exam: JEE Mains 2018 will commence from December 1, 2017. Candidates can apply for the exam at the website of JEE mains. [Click Here]

The offline exam will be held on April 8, 2018, and the online exam on April 15 and April 16, 2018. The process for application will be through online mode with the last date being January 1, 2018.

The examination fee ranges from Rs 1,000 for general category boys to Rs 250 for the reserved category. To be eligible for JEE advanced or Mains one must score at least 75 percent in class 12 board exams or be among the top 20 percentile of the boards.

The candidates who qualify JEE Mains 2018 and Advanced will be eligible to be enrolled in the Bachelor of Technology (BTech), Bachelor of Engineering (BE) and Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) courses at Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs).

Microsoft & Uber Among Others Make Huge Offers On Day 1 Of IIT Bombay Placements

Microsoft offered an annual package of Rs 1.39 crore on the first day of the placement season which is the highest package so far provided on the first day of the session at IIT Bombay Placements. The software giant was closely followed by App-based taxi aggregator Uber which offered a package of Rs 99.87 lakh per year.

The interviews for the first session started at 8 am on Friday and continued until 4 pm whereas the second session began in the evening and went on till 2 am on Saturday. In the first session of the placement, 52 job offers were made from 17 companies which included eight offers from Goldman Sachs and seven from Boston Consulting Group. The others companies which participated in the placement session were Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank, Procter and Gamble, Millennium and the ITC group.

In the ongoing placement sessions, IITs across the country witnessed a considerable hike in the number of jobs offered being made. IIT Madras got a total of 99 offers from 17 companies whereas students of IIT Roorkee received 68 proposals from 11 companies.

It has been noticed that the students are apprehensive about joining the startup as many of them even had withdrawn the job offer made in 2015. Keeping it in mind, IITs had blacklisted and banned 31 start-ups from campus placement for withdrawing their job offers. The number of startups participating in the placement session is more in comparison to last year but less than from the year 2015.

IIT Roorkee Gets 189 Job Offers On The First Day Of Placement Season

The placement session of the IIT Roorkee started with a total number of 189 jobs offered on the first-day of the session.

IIT Madras received 195 offers on the first day of the session which is more than the proposals which were recovered last year. In the year 2016-17, IIT Madras had received 160 offers on day one.

In IIT Madras, 11 international offers were also made on day one as compared to 3 international offers made last year. The companies which made more than 10 offers this year(2017-18) were EXL Services, Goldman Sachs, Microsoft and Samsung Research Institute Bangalore.

In the light of the stress faced by the student, IIT Madras has done away with the ‘Graveyard Slot’ this year. The graveyard session last year witnessed the participation of 9 companies and a total of 315 students sitting for the placement.

In the graveyard session, a total of 58 offers were made out of which 21 were the core sector jobs, and 37 were non-core sector jobs. In the ongoing session, 48 startups have also registered for placement as compared to 25 last year.

Higher Education Funding Agency(HEFA) Sanctions Rs 2,066 Crore For Six Universities

The Higher Education Funding Agency has approved projects worth Rs 2,066.73 crores for six educational institutions on Wednesday. The agency was established by Union cabinet to provide additional funds to improve infrastructure for research works.

In the press release, the government has said that the funds are sanctioned to improve the research infrastructure in the universities and help them feature in the global list of top universities. The six educational institutions which got their projects approved are Indian Institutes of Technology in Bombay, Delhi, Madras, Kharagpur and Kanpur, and the National Institute of Technology, Suratkal.

The funds granted are an add-on to the central government grants. Rs 1,028.73 crore were allowed were 16 projects for research and academic facilities and Rs 1,038 crore for other supporting infrastructure in the respective institutions according to the press release.

Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javedkar termed it as a historic move and tweeted “Today is a historic day for financing the needs and promotion of research and innovation beyond budgetary allocations,”
